Admelog is a follow-on biologic of insulin lispro — same active drug as Humalog, similar onset/peak/duration. Rapid-acting mealtime insulin for type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
How Admelog Works:
Mealtime insulin matches glucose absorption from food. Insulin lispro modified at B28/B29 amino acids to prevent hexamer formation — faster SC absorption than regular insulin.
Onset 15 min, peak 1–2 hours, duration 3–4 hours. Take 15 min before meals or at meal start. Combined with basal insulin in basal-bolus regimen, or used in pump.
Form and use:
Admelog SC injection 15 min before meal. Vials and prefilled SoloStar pens. Compatible with NPH for mixing.
Generic availability:
Authorized generic insulin lispro (Lilly’s low-cost Humalog), Admelog itself is a follow-on biologic. Other rapid insulins: NovoLog/Fiasp (aspart), Apidra (glulisine). Medicare $35/month insulin cap.
Warnings:
Hypoglycemia (most common), hypokalemia, fluid retention/heart failure with TZDs, hypersensitivity reactions.
$100–$200/vial. Medicare Part D $35/month. Authorized generic lispro $30/vial.
Same active drug (insulin lispro). Admelog is follow-on biologic; clinically equivalent. Lilly’s authorized generic of Humalog (sold under generic name) similar.
