Don’t let the cost of glaucoma eye drops threaten your vision. We help eligible patients
access Alphagan P (brimonidine tartrate) for as little as $69.95 per month through
manufacturer Patient Assistance Programs.
The Alphagan P Prescription Assistance Program is a manufacturer-sponsored initiative that provides Alphagan P at no medication cost to qualifying patients who cannot afford it. The program is available to uninsured and underinsured U.S. residents who meet income and residency requirements. Medicare Part D patients may also qualify on a case-by-case basis. If approved, you receive your medication at no cost. Navigating this program on your own, however, means managing eligibility requirements, prescriber coordination, and annual re-enrollment — all while treating a lifelong condition that
demands uninterrupted daily eye drop use. AffordMyPrescriptions eliminates that burden. For a flat $69.95 per month, our Patient
Advocates handle every step of your enrollment and ensure seamless refill management, because missing glaucoma doses allows pressure to rise and optic nerve damage to progress silently.

Eligibility is generally determined by annual household income levels. Most programs follow guidelines that include a limit of up to $40,000 for individuals, $60,000 for couples, and $100,000 for larger families. Because requirements can vary, we encourage you to contact AffordMyPrescriptions directly so we can review your specific situation and determine if you qualify for assistance.
Alphagan P (brimonidine tartrate ophthalmic solution) is a prescription eye drop used to lower elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It is available in 0.1% and 0.15% concentrations. Alphagan P uses Purite as its preservative, which is designed to be gentler on the eye surface than traditional preservatives — an important consideration for patients who use glaucoma drops long-term.
How It Works:
Inside your eye, a clear fluid called aqueous humor is constantly produced, circulates through the front of the eye to nourish the lens and cornea, and then drains out through a mesh-like channel. When this drainage system doesn’t work efficiently, fluid builds up, intraocular pressure
rises, and the increased pressure gradually damages the optic nerve — the connection between your eye and your brain. Glaucoma treatment focuses on lowering this pressure to a safe level.
Alphagan P works through a dual mechanism to lower intraocular pressure. First, it reduces the amount of aqueous humor that your eye produces — by activating alpha-2 adrenergic receptors in the ciliary body (the tissue that makes the fluid), it signals the eye to slow fluid production.Second, it increases the drainage of fluid through an alternative pathway called the uveoscleral outflow — essentially opening a secondary drainage route to help fluid leave the eye more efficiently. This dual action — less fluid coming in and more fluid going out — lowers intraocular pressure and reduces the force pressing on your optic nerve.
Form and Use:
Available as 5 mL bottles in 0.1% and 0.15% concentrations. Instill one drop in the affected eye(s) three times daily, approximately 8 hours apart. Gently close your eye for 1 to 2 minutes after application to maximize absorption and minimize systemic effects.
Generic Availability:
Generic brimonidine tartrate ophthalmic solution is widely available in the United States from multiple manufacturers. The generic is available in 0.2% concentration (the original Alphagan formulation) for as little as $6 to $10 per 5 mL bottle with coupons, and in 0.15% and 0.1% concentrations (equivalent to Alphagan P) for approximately $36 to $49 per bottle with coupons. The key difference between brand Alphagan P and most generics is the preservative: Alphagan P uses Purite, while most generics use benzalkonium chloride (BAK). For patients with sensitive eyes or preservative sensitivity, the specific Alphagan P formulation may be preferred.
Warnings:
Glaucoma treatment is lifelong — never stop using Alphagan P without medical supervision. Missing doses allows pressure to rise and damage to progress. Do not touch the dropper tip to your eye or any surface. If using multiple eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between each different medication. Remove contact lenses before application. Tell your doctor about all other medications, as some can interact with brimonidine.
Brand-name Alphagan P costs approximately $176–$269 per 5 mL bottle. Generic brimonidine 0.2% is available for as little as $6–$10, and generic 0.15% for approximately $36–$49 with coupons. Through AffordMyPrescriptions, qualifying patients receive brand- name Alphagan P at no medication cost — our $69.95 monthly fee covers advocacy and program management.

Yes, generic brimonidine is widely available. The 0.2% generic costs as little as $6–$10 per bottle with coupons. The 0.15% generic (equivalent to Alphagan P) costs $36–$49. The main difference is the preservative — Alphagan P uses Purite, which may be gentler
for patients with sensitive eyes or those on multiple eye drops.
Possibly. Medicare Part D patients may be eligible for the Patient Assistance Program on a case-by-case basis. Our advocates review each Medicare patient’s situation individually and work to identify the most affordable pathway.
Our Patient Advocates will immediately explore every alternative — including generic brimonidine 0.2% ($6–$10/bottle with coupons), generic brimonidine 0.15% ($36–$49), GoodRx and SingleCare discount cards, independent co-pay assistance foundations, insurance formulary exception requests, and alternative glaucoma medications such as generic latanoprost ($5–$15/month) or generic timolol. If we can’t help, you won’t be
