Many patients try discount cards first. Here’s why the Patient Assistance Program through Afford My Prescriptions is the better long–term solution:
Eligibility is generally determined by annual household income levels. Most programs follow guidelines that include a limit of up to $40,000 for individuals, $60,000 for couples, and $100,000 for larger families. Because requirements can vary, we encourage you to contact AffordMyPrescriptions directly so we can review your specific situation.
Vraylar (cariprazine) is a once-daily prescription capsule used to treat schizophrenia, manic or mixed episodes of bipolar I disorder, depressive episodes of bipolar I disorder, and as add-on treatment for major depressive disorder in adults. Available in 1.5 mg, 3 mg, 4.5 mg, and 6 mg strengths.
How It Works:
Vraylar acts as a “partial agonist” at dopamine receptors — meaning it can both increase and decrease dopamine activity depending on what your brain needs. When dopamine is too high (psychosis, mania), Vraylar dials it down. When too low (depression), it helps increase it. It has particular affinity for D3 receptors involved in mood, motivation, and cognition.
Form and Use:
One capsule daily, with or without food. Dosing is adjusted by your psychiatrist based on your condition.
Generic Availability:
As of April 2026, no generic is commercially available despite FDA approval of at least one generic application. Patent protections prevent sale until approximately September 2029.
Warnings:
Never stop psychiatric medication abruptly without your doctor’s supervision. Abruptly stopping Vraylar can lead to relapse, withdrawal symptoms, or psychiatric crisis. Increased risk of suicidal thoughts in young adults. Elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis are at increased risk of death.
The list price is $1,594.82 per 30-day supply. Retail prices range from $1,400 to $1,900+. With coupons, the best price is approximately $1,445. Through AffordMyPrescriptions, qualifying patients receive Vraylar at no medication cost for $69.95/month.
